"Pinkie" floor lamp in custom pink auto body paint on gel-coated fiberglass-reinforced plastic with a single bulb. Series designed by Wendell Castle, 1969. Eight examples being made and signed by Wendell Castle, Rochester, New York, 2009-2011. Between 1968 and 1973, Wendell Castle, revered designer-craftsman and pioneer of the American studio furniture movement, embarked upon a brief but intense period of experimentation: He temporally abandoned his well-established career as the nation's foremost designer in wood to immerse himself in hot-hued plastics. Lipstick pink, blood red, glowing lime and deep navy furniture for home emerged from his studio. Wendell's original editions were of 8 and were never completely manufactured. R & Company commissioned for the editions to be completed in 2010, including "Benny" "Pinkie" "Fat Albert" "Raquel" "Sluggo", shelves, and more. R's collection includes the newly completed first editions, and those created in the late 1960's. Today the pieces from Wendell Castle's now infamous 'plastic fantastic' period are considered icons, collected by museums and connoisseurs alike.
