The “Nevalyashka” model that became world famous was first produced in 1958, designed in 1956 by Scientiphic research institute Igrushka (Toy) for babies that have just learnt to sit. It was made out of bright plastic and featured a unique mechanism providing the toy to return to its original upright position, no matter how hard you pushed it. On top of that, it emitted melodic sounds each time you touched it. The idea behind the Nevalyashka was borrowed form the Japanese culture during Russian Arts and crafts movement in the XIX century.
