In 1959, the Soviet Union bought the technology of producing tetrahedron-shaped milk packages from the Swedish company Tetra Pack. This technology remained popular for many years. At that time, European consumers already used plastic bags that were damaged by sharp edges of pyramidal packages, while the Soviets carried their foodstuffs in convenient string bags. The package’s abstract pattern of red and blue triangles and the inscription in geometric san-serif is a characteristic example of the Khrushchev era modernist design that reinterpreted the ideas of Russian Constructivism.
