On August 17, 1933 at 19 pm Moscow time on the proof ground near the village of Nakhabino (Krasnogorsk district of Moscow region) the first Soviet missile with a liquid propellant engine was successfully launched. The missile was developed by the Group for the Study of Reactive Motion (GIRD), led by its chief and chairman of the Technical Board Sergei Pavlovich Korolev. Conceived by Senior Engineer Michael Klavdievich Tikhonravov.
