It is intended to serve as a spark trasmitter in Popov's radio. The rotating magnet creates continuous pulses through the сircuit breaker and a mercury container, from which the signals (dot and dash) were produced by means of a key controller. Unlike the electromechanical circuit breaker, the mercury breaker is more reliable and allows you to work with large constant currents as liquid mercury eliminates contact erosion.
